Getting started with Muesli on iPhone

Open Muesli, complete onboarding, allow microphone access, and download a local transcription model. Core voice notes and meeting transcription do not require an account.

Allowing microphone access

Choose Allow when iOS asks for microphone access. If you denied it, open Settings > Privacy & Security > Microphone and enable Muesli, then return to the app.

Downloading a transcription model

Open Settings > Models and choose a Parakeet or Whisper model. Keep Muesli open and connected during the first download and preparation. Available choices range from lighter models around 153 MB to larger models around 1.5 GB.

Using transcription without an internet connection

Download and prepare a model before going offline. Recording and core transcription can then run locally. iCloud sync, model downloads, and optional AI summaries still require a network connection.

Recording and recovering a voice note

Start a Voice Note, speak, then stop to save and transcribe it. Long recordings save audio locally as they progress. If transcription is interrupted, reopen Muesli and check Recent Voice Notes for the saved recording or pending result.

Recording an in-person meeting

Open Meetings, give the session a title, and start recording. Keep the iPhone near the people speaking and leave Muesli active. Obtain any notice or consent required where you are recording.

Installing the Muesli keyboard

Open iOS Settings > General > Keyboard > Keyboards > Add New Keyboard, choose Muesli, then select Muesli in the keyboard list. Return to a text field and switch keyboards with the globe key.

Enabling Full Access

In iOS Settings > General > Keyboard > Keyboards > Muesli, enable Allow Full Access. This lets the keyboard and main app exchange a request and finished result through their shared App Group.

Understanding the keyboard-to-app handoff

The keyboard extension does not record audio. Tapping its microphone creates a request and opens Muesli, where microphone access, recording, and local transcription are handled. The result is returned through the shared App Group and inserted by the keyboard.

Managing saved audio and transcripts

Voice notes, meeting recordings, transcripts, and history are stored locally by default. Use the delete controls in the relevant detail screen to remove content. Audio is not included in optional iCloud text sync.

Using the personal dictionary

Open Settings > Dictionary to add names, brands, acronyms, and phrase corrections. You can also configure filler-word removal. Dictionary data stays in local app storage by default.

Enabling optional iCloud sync

Open Settings > Sync and turn on private iCloud sync while signed in to iCloud. Muesli can sync voice-note text, meeting transcripts, notes, and summaries between iPhone and Mac. Audio and downloaded models are not synced.

Connecting optional summary providers

Open Settings > Summaries. Add an OpenRouter API key or sign in with ChatGPT. A provider receives transcript text only when you ask Muesli to generate a summary. Local recording and transcription do not need a summary provider.

Troubleshooting model downloads

Check available device storage and network access, keep Muesli in the foreground, and retry from Settings > Models. If a partial model remains, remove it from the model manager and start the download again.

Troubleshooting missing transcripts

Confirm a local model shows as ready, then check the relevant Voice Note or Meeting detail. If the recording exists, reconnect power if needed and reopen Muesli so a pending local transcription can resume.

Troubleshooting keyboard handoff

Confirm Muesli Keyboard is selected, Full Access is enabled, and Muesli can open from the keyboard. If the result does not return, switch back to Muesli, finish the request, then return to the original text field and select the Muesli keyboard again.
